Back to Nature - Singapore Zoo (29 Aug 2010)

We decided to accompany Josh and his parent to the zoo because daddy's company is a member of Singapore Zoo therefore it was free entrance for 4 adults.

We reached there around 11 am and it was drizzling but we managed to see the first show : Elephant of Asia.
We watched the show only 5 mins because it's so boring and both kids are sleepy and hungry. So we decided to have lunch at Ah Meng Restaurant for meat balls spagetti and cream of mushroom soup.
Lucky,we had our lunch early, cos after that it was rain heavily and most of visitors were looking for shelter and food too.

Richie ate a lot, he has his own meal Heinz mum's recipe tuna morney with pasta (half bottle) then a little cream of mushroom soup, quarter of 2 slices bread with cheese spread and a little of mango pudding.

After we finished our lunch, the rain also stopped so we could walk around to see the animals.
Unfortunately, our baby was sleepy after eating so he slept and only mom and dad enjoyed the animals haha...
When he woke up, we arrived at Giraffe station and took some pictures there and continue with some animals along the way.

But, mommy and daddy found that Richie was not so interested in animals yet, he prefers to see and observe the plantations instead...phewww...luckily it was free though hehe...we entered wrong place hahhaa....
We were very tired and left the place around 4 pm

Richie and Joshua

Last week, mommy's long time friend came to Singapore. She planned to send her 21 months son to medical check up for ear infection.
When she came with her son and hubby, Richie was very happy. He welcomed them by crawling to them when mommy opened the door.
And for instance, they clicked and played together. Even though Richie was one year younger than him, he wasn't fear playing with stranger perhaps he knew that he's just a little boy as well.

Fortunately, the result of medical check up was good, it was only eczema in the outer ear. But, unfortunately, because Josh spent 2 nights in KK hospital and was playing with some children there, he caught cough.
To prevent Richie getting caught by cough as well, Josh's mommy and daddy decided to stay on Josh's daddy relative.

On Sunday, we went to Singapore Zoo because Josh's mom and dad wanted to show him some live animals.

Smart Boy, Well Done ! Crawling down the bed

Mommy's very proud of Richie. Indeed, he's a smart boy in his own way.
Following the falling down blog that mommy wrote previously, as written before that after the incident, mommy taught him how to go down from mommy's bed.
Amazingly, mommy only taught for 3 days and he's now the expert of crawling in the bed and going down by himself.

He knows that when he reaches to the edge, he sit down for a while and when he wants to go down, he turns his body around and sliding one of the leg and follow by the other....since mommy's bed is a bit high, sometimes he lost the balance when he reaches the floor, but it's ok.

First when he did it by himself, mommy thought it was all coincidence 'cos when mommy taught him, he seemed never pay attention...but every time he wanted to pick up something from the floor, he did the same thing over and over again. Then mommy convinced that he understood what mommy taught and applied it
hahaha...well done boy !

Mommy and daddy really proud of you

Falling down

Since Richie has been very active especially crawling expert. He has fallen down or "kiss" the floor few times.
The first time he was bleeding was when he crawled and "kissed " the floor. His inside upper lip hit the floor and bleeding. That's also the first time daddy was very panic hehe...mommy knew that it's just minor incident so mommy just put an ice cube inside richie's mouth and the bleeding stopped.

But daddy insisted to see the doctor to make sure everything is alright. Luckily the doctor was a stone way, just below our house. And when the doctor checked him up, he said that everything was time don't be panic if it happens again because it's quite normal and just put some ice to stop the bleeding...

Then the next day, Richie fell down from mommy's bed hehe...he crawled very fast and mommy couldn't catch his leg in time so bump he "kissed" the floor again.
Luckily, the impact was not so major. He's quite slow down when reached the edge and his forehead touched the floor first so there's a little bit bump but he's alright.
He just cried for a while and when mommy brought him to the playground, he smiled again hehe...

Mommy teaches him how to go down from the bed, but because mommy's bed quite high from the floor about 50cm, his leg can't reach the floor when he slides to go down....

Mommy decided to post some videos in youtube as well.

Is Simulation Necessary or just let Nature take course ?

Dilemma !!

Mommy was in dilemma quite some times after reading some "Expert" books or even website how to nurture children.
They suggest to stimulate or kids as early as possible even before they were born. Based on their research, they said that the first 5 years are golden years where the brain is developing very active and they are fast learner.
Therefore, they said that it's a right time to teach them reading, mathematic, stimulate physical skills such as roll over, crawling, etc.

Well, perhaps they have applied it to some children but not all children can use that method.
I believe that every child is unique and we can't apply the same concept to them.
It happens with Richie. Perhaps mommy 's a bit kiasu hehe...

From 2 months old, mommy stimulated him to lift his head up by placing him in tummy position.
Then from 3 months old, mommy stimulated him to roll over by placing some toys surrounding but he seemed not interested. Even though Richie could roll over but he chose not to..until mommy was a bit worried when he reached 6 months old, he still couldn't roll over. And mommy gave up, just let him be.
But amazingly, he learnt to roll over within one night then he became an expert afterwards without mommy doing anything.

The interesting part was he could have his own balance to sit unsupported first before rolling over.
Then, it happened again when he's 9 months old. He's already pulled himself to stand and start cruising but didn't want to crawl even though mommy stimulate him by using moving toys like balls. And when he's 9.5 months old, he suddenly could crawl and until now he crawls every where.

From those two events, mommy realized that Richie is unique, normal stimulation doesn't seem applicable for him, instead he has his own time to master the skills without mommy doing anything.

Another interesting event is according to the expert, we can stimulate our kid to do stacking and shape sortir, but on the opposite, Richie likes to destroy hahaha...

Well, I guess mommy just need to explore by trials and errors to stimulate Richie hehe instead of relying to the expert.
And now Richie likes to entertain himself by pushing the balls and he's trying to catch it (see video)

Anyway, mommy and daddy don't want to shape Richie to be a SUPERKID or TOP CLASS in the school since both of us were Top student before and in the real life, there are more things important than being a top class.

What mommy and daddy want to nurture Richie is so Richie has
- dignity about himself
- value and appreciate life
- social skill how to make friends with different groups, races, classes
- skill to manage money not only saving but also investing

Happy Birthday Daddy !

Happy Birthday again Daddy Wish you have long life, prosperity, perfect health, love, joy and hope in your life Thanks for being such a great and wonderful husband to me and daddy to Richie We love you so much....

We celebrated Daddy's birthday on the same day which is August 5th. Daddy took on leave to celebrate and enjoy the birthday with us...

In the morning, mommy cooked a special breakfast for daddy, it's a birthday noodle.
In Chinese tradition, every birthday person should eat noodle to have a long life therefore mommy cooked it special for daddy with fish cake ( symbolize prosperity ), vegies ( symbolize perfect health ), shredded fried eggs ( symbolize fruitfulness ) and some other toppings such as chicken sausage and prawn.
It was a delicious noodle we ever eat because mommy cooked it with grateful heart hehe...

Then, we had late lunch 'cos we waited Richie to wake up from his nap and we went straight to Seoul Garden @ Marina Square about 2.30pm.
It's a BBQ buffet so we ate until drop hehe..and we didn't take dinner 'cos it lasted long until the next day...

Before we went back home, we dropped by to Jurong Point to buy the cake @ Icing Room.
First, mommy didn't know what gift to give daddy 'cos he seemed have enough clothes, shoes, wallets, ties, watches....Thanks to TV ads about Sentimental Hits Collection CD. Fortunately, opposite The Icing Room was Gramophone so mommy quickly bought the CD and bought the gift box and card next door while daddy brought Richie around.

When we reached home, we celebrated in simple way like blew the candle, cut the cake and opened the present. Mommy hoped daddy like it hehe...eventhough it was rush, it made a last minute surprise since mommy already told daddy that this year, I may not give daddy any gift.

After long day, we've been very tired but really happy and so has Richie. He felt a sleep very fast and we completed the night with Great Making Love after Richie slept.

Starting to wean from breastmilk to formula milk

From 10 months old, mommy is starting to wean Richie from breastmilk to formula milk.
The reason is so Richie can have a good night sleep, because he has a habit to ask milk around 3 times at night, and mommy's milk is also decreasing in terms of quantity and quality. Besides next year mommy and daddy are planning to have a long honeymoon and Richie will stay with oma, therefore Richie must be independent from mommy.

Well, it's not easy in the first place, he only drank 30ml by spout.
But after few days, he can drink 60ml, then last weekend mommy added the milk to 90ml and he can finish it.
Yesterday, mommy gave 120ml and he finished them all eventhough it's not one go.

I guess his milk would be around 180 - 200 ml to make him satisfied. But that's okay, mommy also needs to empty the breast as well...hehe...
Good job boy, hopefully the weaning goes well and smoothly.

New Food New Texture

Although Richie only has 1 tooth, his food has many varieties in terms of ingredients and texture.
So far he likes them all. Some of them are
A slice of bread with cheese spread, blueberry yoghurt, macaroni, cheesy pasta, cooked chopped carrot and broccoli, soft steamed rice.

Mommy really proud of you son, hope you'll always like mommy's cook

First Tooth and appetite

Finally, Richie has cut the first tooth below on his 10th month.
Gladly, he's not a fussy eater, he's still enjoy eating his meals and snacks...

Even, his appetite is growing faster, he likes to munch every 2 hours.
In the morning around 8.30 am, he has his breakfast which is cereal + 120ml milk
Then around 9.30 am, he will have breastmilk before taking a morning nap

Around 12 - 1pm, he will have his lunch which is rice with meat + vegie, then a bowl of fruit puree or mashed fruit. Then around 2pm ++ he will have another round of 120ml milk
After he's full, then he will have afternoon nap around 1.5 hours - 2 hours sometimes he's asking the breastmilk before sleeping.

Then around dinner time, he will have another rice/pasta + vegie + meat. Before night sleep, he has 120ml milk.... At night, he still asks breastmilk around 3 times.
Mommy wants to break this habit for asking milk during night time, but it's a pretty hard.

Hopefully, after mommy successfully weaning from breastmilk to formula milk, Richie can sleep thoroughly and not asking the milk during night time
