Sigh.....
This week Richie starts rejecting meal and milk....don't know whether he's sick of the rice and soup or just not in the mood of eating.
He eats very little then left the chair for playing...aiya....
My mom always reminds me that sometimes child is like that, sometimes he wants to eat sometimes he doesn't want to eat. Well, I know that it's not the first time he likes that but it's so heart breaking to see the food prepared go wasted and I also worry if he doesn't have enough nutritions especially after his diarrhea.
Hopefully, his mood backs to normal when mommy and daddy are going for holiday

Reject milk @_@
Since Richie had bad diarrhea, he didn't want to drink milk, perhaps soya milk was taste awful.
After he's no more diarrhea, mommy changed back to gain IQ but still he rejected the milk.
Only sight of it, he already rejected....sigh....
Mommy had no choice but "force" him a little bit by giving him milk and bread.
He's so petite in size after having bad diarrhea, that's why mommy worried if his calcium intake was not enough.
Mommy decided to make milkshakes and see how it goes.
Hopefully, he likes it so mommy doesn't worry much about his growth

Growing up appetite again (16.5 months)
Recently, he has been eating and drinking very well.
The key of success is mommy let him drinking milk by himself. Mommy makes him like a big boy by holding the cup by himself. In the morning mommy let him eat the bread using fork and hold banana by himself too.
I guess it makes him feel that he's important person and big boy, not like baby anymore hehe...
Sample of his meal :
Breakfast : 180cc milk, a slice of white bread with cheese, a whole banana, a tub of yoghurt
Lunch : soup and rice, banana and orange or apple
Tea time : 150cc milk (sometimes mommy gave biscuits)
Dinner : soup and rice
Supper : 150cc milk (sometimes if the dinner is not full, mommy add cereal into milk)
Well done boy!
Eating out and self feeding
Last weekend, mommy brought Richie out to have lunch and dinner outside.
Mommy just want to test him whether he's ready to dine out.
On Saturday noon, we went to Ikea since the place is kid's friendly.
Daddy ordered organic pasta for Richie, since he's so hungry, he finished one bottle of heinz baby food that mommy brought and continue with pasta. He finished it quarter of portion which is pretty a lot
Mommy let him feed by himself using fork.
Then on Sunday noon, we had dimsum at Chinatown and ordered chicken porridge and char siew pau for him.
He ate 2 big charsiew paw and one third of chicken porridge and before that he ate some biscuits that mommy brought from home...he really ate a lot
In the evening, we went to Xin Wang HK cafe at IMM and ordered porridge for him, and he ate one third only. I guessed he's still full 'cos we had dinner quite early around 5pm. Before that he had milk
Well, he passed the test. But mommy just make sure to bring some biscuits to munch on just in case there's no food that he likes

A Camel ??
This is what daddy called Richie, a camel.
Why?
Because sometimes he likes to eat a lot, sometimes he just refuses eat and drink together.
So daddy told mommy, Richie's like a camel.
He likes to eat a lot and keep it inside his tummy. When it's full, he won't eat some more and uses it up until finished, then top up again...
Well after my previous entry that his appetite was growing a lot, this week he just simply eat and drink milk a little bit. After few spoons and few sips, he just spitted it out ....sigh....

Growing up appetite (15.5 months)
Richie's appetite is back to normal and even more than before,
He eats quite a lot. Besides his regular meals, he likes to munch also. Unfortunately, drinking milk is still a challenge.
Mommy has changed his milk to Gain IQ, 'cos he seems bored with fresh milk.
So far he managed to drink 480ml per day (180ml in the morning, 2x150ml in the afternoon and night before going to bed)
Mommy asked the doc about this, and he said it's okay. So long he takes solid food, milk is just complimentary not the main diet.
Alright, at least mommy has peace of mind about this.

Meesua and milk pudding (15 months)
After a week eating heinz ready made food, he's getting sick of it.
So this week, mommy makes meesua and mashed potato for him.
So far he likes it,'cos it's something new for him and it's easy for him to eat without so much chewing.
Next week, mommy will try to give him rice again, hopefully he will eat it.
As for milk, after a week having milk pudding, mommy gives him milk again.
His appetite is back again

Teething affect his appetite?? (14 months old)
Since last week, his appetite has changed again.
He didn't want to eat rice, after 4 or 5 spoons he would spit it out. And he drank less milk also.
Mommy guessed it could be his teething. 'Cos he's drooling a lot and more than the first teething.
So this week, mommy gave him bottled food from Heinz and he liked it.
Perhaps beside teething, he's sick of home cooked which is 90% soup base. Anyway, mommy let him eat bottled food for a week and after that see if his appetite is okay and he wants the home cooked again.
For the milk, mommy made milk pudding from his milk. So in the morning Richie will drink 180cc milk for breakfast and the rest of the day, he will eat milk pudding, yakult and yoghurt for calcium supply.

Fresh Milk (13 months old )
Since Richie turned to 13th month age, he suddenly refused to drink pediasure. It seems that Richie is not a milk person. He only likes breastmilk so far.
But, under 2 years old, full fat milk is very important for his growth. Therefore, mommy decided to buy 200ml Meiji Fresh Milk. First, he rejected when mommy warmed the milk up. But when mommy gave him the chilled one, he accepted it even though he drank a little bit.
And turned out that his body could accept the fresh milk, therefore mommy decided to give him fresh milk, chocolate flavour.
He seemed like it, especially when it's chilled.
So, mommy decided to alternate the milk, morning time will be Pediasure for breakfast and afternoon and night time will be fresh milk

less for MORE
Suddenly Richie's appetite was back again since last monday, exactly after he passed 13th month.
When mommy gave him his meal during lunch and dinner, he ate very fast and never spitted out.
Well, mommy was so happy.
Previously, since he didn't want to sit still for more than 5 mins, mommy gave him half of his usual portion.
And when mommy gave him last monday, he seemed hungry and asked when mommy ate.
So, on Wednesday, mommy add to become 3/4 of his usual portion to see whether he finished it. And he did it.
Finally mommy found the solution if he didn't have enough appetite, mommy will give him less and let him ask for more. I guess it works for us.
The moral of the story :
If the desire of eating comes from the child, it will be easier to feed him instead of forcing him to eat
Always give less than what he wants, to make him wants more
On the other hand, the weaning is still in progress. It's kinda of up and down though.
But mommy always tries to be consistent at least giving him 135ml milk in the morning. The rest of the days depends on his meal and mood. Other alternatives, mommy gave him a tub of yoghurt everyday and a slice of milk pudding (made from his formula milk + agar agar powder)

Continued .... from changing appetite blog (12 months)
Mommy now knows why Richie has sudden change of appetite. He likes to play more and can't sit still for more than 5 minutes, unless he's being entertained.
Like yesterday, mommy gave him
Breakfast : 135ml + bread talk steam cake ( more than 1/2 cake )
Tea break : milk pudding + 60g yoghurt
Lunch : tofu soup + rice (only 10 tea spoons ), 1 whole banana and 1 whole kiwi
Tea break : milk pudding
Dinner : tofu soup + rice (3/4 bowl) + onion ring snack (for playing and entertaining)
Richie ate more during dinner time because daddy kept him entertained by giving him onion ring snack.
He liked to hold and play with it, sometimes he put it into his mouth or daddy's mouth.
Well, boy, you make mommy becomes busier and busier every day hehe...

No more Porridge - 12.5 months old
Yeay...finally Richie is able to eat normal rice, no more porridge.
So it's easier for mommy to plan the menu and cook every day. So far, Richie is receptive with adult food and his appetite is good.
He has eaten tofu soup with minced pork, misua soup with luffa, spinach soup and scramble egg with mix vegetable and bakmoy.
Well done my boy !
