Mommy wants to test him whether he can self feed by himself, so mommy gives him a try by eating yoghurt.
And he can do it properly of course with a little bit mess here and there but Richie can hold the spoon properly and can put it into the mouth well too.

Well done boy !

Spooning Activities

Mommy copies this activity from Preschool Montessori at Youtube...
This is fun activity for practising fine motor skills as well as one step closer to self feeding...
Mommy seldom trains Richie for self feeding at home, 'cos mommy's lazy to clean up the mess therefore mommy train him using dry beans and asks him to scoop using spoon from one bowl to another bowl

First, he's kinda excited and enjoy it, but since he scoops very little he kinda impatient and makes a mess hahaha
but it's dry, so it's easy to clean up and can be reused again
Hopefully after this he's ready for self feeding with little mess

Well done Boy!

Growing up appetite again (16.5 months)

Recently, he has been eating and drinking very well.
The key of success is mommy let him drinking milk by himself. Mommy makes him like a big boy by holding the cup by himself. In the morning mommy let him eat the bread using fork and hold banana by himself too.
I guess it makes him feel that he's important person and big boy, not like baby anymore hehe...

Sample of his meal :
Breakfast : 180cc milk, a slice of white bread with cheese, a whole banana, a tub of yoghurt
Lunch : soup and rice, banana and orange or apple
Tea time : 150cc milk (sometimes mommy gave biscuits)
Dinner : soup and rice
Supper : 150cc milk (sometimes if the dinner is not full, mommy add cereal into milk)

Well done boy!

Eating out and self feeding

Last weekend, mommy brought Richie out to have lunch and dinner outside.
Mommy just want to test him whether he's ready to dine out.
On Saturday noon, we went to Ikea since the place is kid's friendly.
Daddy ordered organic pasta for Richie, since he's so hungry, he finished one bottle of heinz baby food that mommy brought and continue with pasta. He finished it quarter of portion which is pretty a lot
Mommy let him feed by himself using fork.

Then on Sunday noon, we had dimsum at Chinatown and ordered chicken porridge and char siew pau for him.
He ate 2 big charsiew paw and one third of chicken porridge and before that he ate some biscuits that mommy brought from home...he really ate a lot
In the evening, we went to Xin Wang HK cafe at IMM and ordered porridge for him, and he ate one third only. I guessed he's still full 'cos we had dinner quite early around 5pm. Before that he had milk

Well, he passed the test. But mommy just make sure to bring some biscuits to munch on just in case there's no food that he likes

Breakfast on Lazy Sunday

Sushi sushi

just arrive, still in the proper sit and clean hands

start digging the sushi

here's the egg and sushi rice

One day after Richie passed his 13th month age, mommy and daddy brought him to Sakae Sushi for lunch.
Mommy brought his meal which is mashed potato with salmon carbonara. He finished them very fast and still looked very hungry, therefore he asked mommy sushi, since daddy and mommy ate sushi.

So mommy ordered tamago sushi (egg omelete sushi) and he liked it and finished 1 sushi except the sea weed.
After that, mommy let him try to feed himself sushi by his hand and end up playing with the food and messed up the table and floor.
Luckily he has finished his meal and it's in the restaurant. So mommy don't mind paying service charge
haha

Postponing Self Feeding training

Since his appetite was changing, mommy decided to post pone self feeding training.
Besides, mommy had sharing experience from other mommy, she said that she never train self feeding her daughter at home, because it's quite messy and she just can't stand it, so she only allows self feeding in the restaurant...And she told me when the time comes, her daughter is able to do it by herself, she just take the spoon from her mom and start scooping the spoon into the food and putting into her mouth.

Well, I guess every thing will come when the right time has come otherwise it will be frustrating for mom and son

Eating fruit by himself

Since his appetite is okay and he's not a fussy eater, mommy decided to give him a chance for self feeding.
First, mommy let him eating fruits by himself. He likes it for the few minutes, but after that he just throw the fruits in the floor and put the bowl upside down .....and he smiles after that..
Perhaps it's quite amusement for him able to do that.... and mommy needs to clean up the mess..
oh boy !!
Anyway, mommy will slowly introduce him to self feeding until he can manage eating by himself

Weaning Progress to Formula Milk

After stopping weaning to formula milk about 2 weeks, now mommy is starting to wean again.
Mommy changed the formula milk from similac to Pediasure.
First, he didn't really like it 'cos it has strong sweet taste if mommy mix the powder and water according to the instruction. Then mommy reduced the portion of powder to water so 1 scoop of powder to 90ml.
And Richie liked it, 'cos it's still has sweet taste but not so thick...close to breastmilk taste ....
Today he can finish it 2x90 ml within 1.5 hours.

Well, eventhough in his age, he should drink at least 5x200ml, mommy was happy he didn't spit the milk out like before.
Hopefully, it goes smoothly
