It's been almost 2 months since he started Primary 1, so far he has settled down very well and could follow teacher's instructions except for Chinese Lesson.
Lee Laoshi told me that he need to practice conversation more which it's challenging task for us since we couldn't speak chinese well.
So we decided to add one more chinese tuition hour with conversation, hopefully it helps him

Richie's chinese skill progress
After attending chinese class for about 6 months plus.
Richie managed to recognize and read 56 chinese characters and sang 3 mandarin songs ( so far I've heard at home)

Pushing the limits
This two weeks Richie has been pushing the limits, our patience to be exact.
Whenever mommy told him not to do, he will do, if mommy asks him to do something, he won't do it.
It really drives mommy crazy. Mommy's not sure why he's behaving like that suddenly from being good boy.
Hopefully it's just phasing stage...
But so far he likes to go to class, the weekly chinese class, he's looking forward to meeting his laoshi.
The good feedback from laoshi, he's actively participating now, even when he's back home, he could sing the song, not sure its title though hehe...

Third lesson in Berries (31st month)
After a holiday last Tuesday, yesterday was a third chinese lesson in Berries.
It turned out very good, the laoshi praised him for the great improvement.
He just cried in the beginning when mommy left but after that he's okay.
He could sit below his name and read correctly and also he helped laoshi giving stickers and glue to other kids hehe...
Phew...mommy's effort to create his room like berries classroom is not wasted after all hahaha...
Mommy created a card with his name so he knows where he should sit
Every day mommy told him not to scared, stay with laoshi while mommy's going for fitness and mommy will pick him up again with bread.
Don't cry and don't try to go out
And finally, it's successful...and he's so looking forward to the class
Mommy believes that he can overcome separation anxiety soon and he did it !

First lesson, Second visit to Berry's enrichment class
Yesterday was Richie's second visit to Berry's Enrichment class for mandarin.
Huaaa...he's crying the whole lesson till he took a nap at one of laoshi's arm haha..
I guess he saw me that I left him there therefore he felt so insecure.
Mommy should leave him when he was playing, will do that for next week
At first, mommy was also heart broken seeing him crying for the longest period.
But, other mommies and laoshi told mommy that it's very normal and kid needs to learn to settle down as well as mommy needs to learn to let go.
Therefore mommy decided to go to west mall and picked him up again.
When he saw mommy, his crying stopped and hugged mommy hehehe....
In the car, Richie wanted to eat bread 'cos he's very tired crying haha...and he still can say that he wants to play with laoshi ...haiyahhhh
Well, mommy gave him 10 chances, if it still failed then mommy will withdraw him from the programme and started again next year...

First ever going to enrichment class
Yesterday, Richie attended Mandarin Enrichment class trial for the first time at Berries.
So far so good, only 2 incidents when he opened the door by himself and run outside the class looking for mommy hahaha....
It happened one hour after the class began. Total lesson was 1.5 hours
Eventhough it's first time for him to attend the class with strangers, he's pretty enjoying it, he could follow the laoshi instruction and responded well when the laoshi asked him to recite the words
Mommy decided to enroll him in Mandarin class this year instead next year because mommy saw he had some interest in mandarin when he played mommy's iphone.
He can show mommy xiang jiao (banana), ping guo (apple), ying tao (cherry), e li (avocado), han bao bao (burger), shou shi (sushi), mi fan (rice), bing qi ling (ice cream)
It's a bit too late to enroll N1 'cod the weekend class has been full as well as most of the weekday class, therefore mommy put him in night class Tue 7.30pm
The trial class was so far so good, the laoshi was nice too
Hopefully next week class, he can settle down better and enjoy the whole lesson

Home is the best school, Parents are the best teacher
Indeed it's true, there's nothing beat home and parents to teach the kids
Home is where the kid feels safe, secure, comfortable and become who he is
Parents are the best teacher who know their kid better than anyone else, whenever they are happy, sad, troubled, tired, sleepy, hungry. Parents teach their kid not because of "job" or they are paid like school teacher but they teach kid because they love to nurture and watch them grow happily with full confidence and broad knowledges.
That's why mommy doesn't want to waste the best three years of Richie's life.
It's the years when Richie gets very close with his parents, happily learning and playing without any peer pressure and it the years mommy and daddy can shape his characters to be a patient, wise, responsible, and generous boy.
Mommy will enrol him to N2 when he's turning 4 instead of next year.
Mommy knows when he starts to go to school, he will have less time with us and spend more times with his friends. It can be a good and bad.
It's good to learn social life, not shy with people but it's bad if the friends gave him bad influence.
That's why mommy and daddy need to put a good foundation in him before he's ready to face the external influences.
Mommy makes our home becomes a preschool like. Mommy pastes many words in english and mandarin in our furniture instead of doing flashcards.
Why? It's just something different and it's more real and fun than doing usual flashcards.
Voila, Richie also likes it, for eg whenever he wants to go outside, he will see the word "door".
And when he wants to go to toilet, he will see the word "toilet"
Hopefully his brain will absorb this words and sinking them to his subconscious mind.

Yesterday, mommy bought 1 karaoke chinese nursery song. Wowww...I was quite surprised, 'cos I thought it was like english nursery song translated to chinese but turned out that it's different songs. Only two songs that mommy and Richie were familiar with. Two tiger song (are you sleeping Bro John? in english) and Twinkle twinkle little star.

Digital Chinese Flashcards
After reading some stories from parents who're struggling with their P1 kids in chinese lessons, mommy decided to introduce chinese language to Richie as early as possible.
Mommy made handmade flashcard in hanyu pinyin but turn out that the spelling was difficult. Mommy try to learn 5 spelling from google translate and forgot again when tried to do flashcard to Richie.
End up, Richie's just look at mommy and perhaps he think what are you trying to say mom? sigh....
That's why, mommy bought the baby brain chinese language. First mommy wanted to show it to Richie during meal time while he's eating and learn together. But end up, he refused both eating and watching. haiya...
So the alternative, using PC.
They have the schedule for every day. So starting today, mommy let him watch the program for day 1.
It has pictures and hanyu pinyin and has many subjects like body parts, vegetables, fruits, flowers, action and feelings, sports etc.
Well, hopefully his brain memorizes all of these and when the time comes, he's easily picking up the chinese language in school.
Besides, mommy will try to find nursery school who's speaking chinese more instead of english. Hopefully, it works too.

Learning Mandarin and Flash Card through Iphone
Mommy just bought new Iphone4 on 27th September and it was a great investment even better than Blackberry.
Luckily mommy changed to Iphone. The applications are so wide range and mommy can use the applications to teach Richie flash cards and learning mandarin.
When Richie wants to be entertained on car or eating, mommy just use the iphone flash card to keep him still hehe...
Thanks to Hi-tech, after Iphone the next gadget for Richie will be Ipad
