Pre-primary activity books

 Mommy bought this activity books from Du Yi bookshops.

They are not expensive, less than S$5 each but can last for 3 months I guess hehe...

This books are for Richie to practice at home.

During K1, mommy already makes a habit for him to do a review eventhough only half an hour.

This habit will be carried out when he's in primary school, secondary, JC or university.

It doesn't take long time but regular time will help his study

 

Hopefully he doesn't need any tuition

I can read part 1a Peter and Jane

Today, Richie is reading new book series Peter and Jane by Ladybird 1a
It's very basic and it's very good for beginner

 

I can read in English (11 Feb 2014)

Today,  Richie surprises mommy, when mommy gives him a book that's for beginner to read, he shows interest and slowly reads it with a little help from mommy.
It's another big milestone for him.

Starting to read words

Well, mommy's not sure whether he's able to read the words or memorize them but he has interest in learning to read some words when we are going out.
He can read BUS, TAXI, SHOPS, FOODCOURT, ORCHARD, CLEMENTI, CHANGI AIRPORT, CARPARK etc

Anyway, it shows that his "language brain" is developing well and the teacher has done great job since mommy never teaches him anything

Richie's playing alphabet puzzle in the form of sea horse, a birthday gift from tante Fanie

Reciting words

Since he likes to copy whatever mommy and daddy say, mommy make use of his new habit with reciting activity.
Whenever mommy reads a book for him, mommy asks him to recite mommy's words.
It's quite fun for mommy to hear his cute voice haha...

Then at night, mommy makes a habit for him to pray and greet us with I love you, kiss kiss and say good night.
And mommy will lead the simple prayer and he recites mommy's words. Mommy keeps the prayer sentences simple and always the same, so he can memorize it easily.

Learning spelling and reading

Richie loves reading a book before afternoon nap. Usually he chooses the book by himself and asks mommy to read it for him.
This afternoon, he chooses Dibo's first words book and mommy asks him to spell the words

After that, he chooses another book which is lunchbox book and he pretends to eat and drink with the pop up book hehe

ABC and numbers puzzle (2 years 3 mos)

This is another favorite toys, ABC and numbers puzzle.
He learns lower caption alphabet and numbers too...

When mommy plays Betty's apple tree with Richie this morning, mommy asks him to pick the apple alphabet and he does it right 100%

Expressions Faces

Mommy borrowed a book from library, titled Face
It shows many expressions from happy, angry, sad, tired, brave, scared, cheeky, and ill
While mommy read it to Richie, mommy also makes some expressions to make the book alive

Reading the book and eating lollipop

This is the second time, mommy borrowed some books from public library. And this time round, mommy only borrowed 4 books.
And he likes only 1 book most which the title is My Birthday Cake.
Mommy reads him this book almost everyday before his afternoon nap. And he understands the story as well as he can point and repeat some words especially when it relates with food haha...
So this afternoon, mommy gave him a lollipop to make the story comes alive.

He likes the lollipop and enjoys reading the book hehe...

Home is the best school, Parents are the best teacher

Indeed it's true, there's nothing beat home and parents to teach the kids
Home is where the kid feels safe, secure, comfortable and become who he is
Parents are the best teacher who know their kid better than anyone else, whenever they are happy, sad, troubled, tired, sleepy, hungry. Parents teach their kid not because of  "job" or they are paid like school teacher but they teach kid because they love to nurture and watch them grow happily with full confidence and broad knowledges.

That's why mommy doesn't want to waste the best three years of Richie's life.
It's the years when Richie gets very close with his parents, happily learning and playing without any peer pressure and it the years mommy and daddy can shape his characters to be a patient, wise, responsible, and generous boy.

Mommy will enrol him to N2 when he's turning 4 instead of next year.


Mommy knows when he starts to go to school, he will have less time with us and spend more times with his friends. It can be a good and bad.
It's good to learn social life, not shy with people but it's bad if the friends gave him bad influence.
That's why mommy and daddy need to put a good foundation in him before he's ready to face the external influences.

Mommy makes our home becomes a preschool like. Mommy pastes many words in english and mandarin in our furniture instead of doing flashcards.
Why? It's just something different and it's more real and fun than doing usual flashcards.
Voila, Richie also likes it, for eg whenever he wants to go outside, he will see the word "door".
And when he wants to go to toilet, he will see the word "toilet"
Hopefully his brain will absorb this words and sinking them to his subconscious mind.

Learning reading in progress

Richie has been intensively learning reading everyday.
So far he has learnt fruits, vegetables, body parts and close to him.
He's very interested in body parts though. 'Cos he's familiar with most of it like head, hair, fingers, ears, nose, eyes, mouth, teeth. Even though when mommy asks him to point, he seems don't bother, but mommy knows that he understands what it means.
When mommy using flashcards to ask him to point, he could point the right one.

The next subject that he is going to learn is animals.
Hopefully, he's also like it, 'cos he likes to watch and observe pets surrounding our blocks

Sorting the shapes and digital flash card

Now, Richie is able to sort the shapes even though only 3 (cylinder, cube and triangle).
It's much more easier to start from simple shapes and it's from his walker.

Besides, he's now addicted to digital flash card from iphone.
Every time mommy hold the iphone and he saw it. He will run to mommy and beg to see the flash card.
After mommy show it to him, he can sit still for at least 5 mins and always ask the new topic in the flash card.

There are about fruits, ABC, numbers, animals, body part, musical instruments, vehicles, sports, thing surrounding house, color.

Learning Mandarin and Flash Card through Iphone

Mommy just bought new Iphone4 on 27th September and it was a great investment even better than Blackberry.
Luckily mommy changed to Iphone. The applications are so wide range and mommy can use the applications to teach Richie flash cards and learning mandarin.
When Richie wants to be entertained on car or eating, mommy just use the iphone flash card to keep him still hehe...
Thanks to Hi-tech, after Iphone the next gadget for Richie will be Ipad

Peek A Boo Books

These are his favorite books, he will sit still for at least 15 minutes when mommy reads him aloud this little books.
The books has a flap page to give him peek a boo effects and he listens carefully while observing the way mommy flip and open the flap page.
It's really best investment so far hahaha...
